ABB TU848 Description

The TU848 is a Module Termination Unit (MTU) designed for the redundant 

configuration of the Optical ModuleBus Modem TB840/TB840A. This passive 

unit facilitates the integration of two modems, offering connections for double 

power supplies (one for each modem), double electrical ModuleBus, and 

two TB840/TB840A modems. It also features a rotary switch that allows users 

to set the cluster address (ranging from 1 to 7).

The MTU is equipped with two mechanical keys for configuration purposes. Each 

key has six positions, providing a total of 36 possible configurations, which can be 

adjusted with a screwdriver for easy reconfiguration.

The TU848 unit provides individual power supply connections and is used to connect 

the TB840/TB840A modems to redundant I/O systems. In contrast, the TU849 version 

of the termination unit offers individual power supply connections but is used to connect 

the TB840/TB840A modems to non-redundant I/O.

This flexibility makes the TU848 and TU849 ideal for configurations requiring 

either redundant or non-redundant I/O connections while ensuring reliable operation 

and ease of setup.
