1771-ASB I/O Description

The 1771-ASB is a Universal Remote I/O Adapter Module designed for integration 

with PLC systems. It interfaces with I/O modules in an I/O chassis through a Remote 

I/O (RIO) scanner port, facilitating communication between the processor and I/O 

devices over an I/O link. By using this module instead of direct wiring, installation, 

startup, and maintenance costs are reduced, as the I/O is positioned closer to the 

actuators and sensors. It supports up to 32 I/O-adapter devices via the I/O link and 

utilizes 82 Ohm or 150 Ohm terminating resistors.

The 1771-ASB module operates at communication rates of 57.6 Kbps, 115 Kbps, and 230 Kbps, 

with a weight of 1.9 pounds. It has a backplane current load of 1 A at 5 Volts DC and a maximum 

power dissipation of 5.2W. This module requires a remote I/O adapter port for connection and 

must be mounted in the left-most slot of the I/O chassis, which is controlled by the processor. 

For wiring, the 1770-CD Belden 9463 or equivalent cable should be used. The module includes 

diagnostic indicators for Active, Adapter Fault, and I/O Rack faults, as well as 2 switch assemblies 

and a field wiring arm. It supports data transmission over a range of up to 2500 feet at 230.4K baud 

and provides enhanced backplane scanning and faster data transmission. The 1771-ASB improves 

scan time and optimizes I/O image space by scanning all slots except the last 4, offering better 

troubleshooting capabilities with its advanced diagnostic features.
